Between 1974 and 1982, he and his family (wife Valerie and their two younger sons) lived in some of the most wild and beautiful places in New Zealand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maritimenz.govt.nz\/public\/lighthouses-of-new-zealand\/mokohinau-islands\/\">Burgess Island<\/a>, which is the middle of three islands in the Mokoh\u012bnau group, North-East of Auckland<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.govt.nz\/parks-and-recreation\/places-to-go\/northland\/places\/cape-brett-and-whangamumu-area\/heritage-sites\/cape-brett-lighthouse\/\">Cape Brett<\/a>, a peninsula in the Bay of Islands<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitwairoa.co.nz\/see-and-do\/attractions\/portland-island\/\">Portland Island<\/a>, off the southern tip of the M\u0101hia peninsula in Hawke&#8217;s Bay<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.maritimenz.govt.nz\/public\/lighthouses-of-new-zealand\/cape-reinga\/\">Cape Reinga<\/a>, at the very top of the North Island<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"http:\/\/mooncrowned.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/CapeReinga-signs-1024x683.png\" alt=\"Photo of a white lighthouse set against a very blue sky with bush &amp; grass-covered hillside in the background.
