The parents of my 2x great-grandmother, Victoria Elsie LAWRENCE<\/a>, were Jacob LAWRENCE and Elizabeth MARSHALL.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacob LAWRENCE was born, possibly illegitimately, in 1828 near Hull, Yorkshire, England, to William TANCOCK & Elizabeth LAWRENCE. He had three siblings who all took the surname TANCOCK: Eliza (1820-1897), William (1824-1843) and John Thomas (1835-). Jacob’s father, an immigrant from Ireland, was a boot & shoemaker, and Jacob followed him into the trade. Jacob had used his father’s surname as a youth, but between 1852-1861, he had switched to his mother’s maiden name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1852, on the 5th of August, Jacob married Elizabeth MARSHALL in Drypool’s Parish Church, very near where his family were living at 1 Church Street in 1851. At the time, Elizabeth was working as a servant in a household in the nearby suburb of Sculcoates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elizabeth MARSHALL was born in 1830 in Scawby Brook, Lincolnshire, England to Joseph MARSHALL & Phoebe STORY. She had seven siblings: Rebeccah (1820-?), Phoebe (1823-1855), Hannah (1835-1924), Joseph (1837-1910), Mildred (1839-1915), Martha (1841-1908) and James (1843-1847). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At some point, possibly after the death of her mother in 1847, she moved across the Humber to Yorkshire, where she met and married Jacob. They had a long marriage, and raised five children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacob died in Bristol in 1898, and Elizabeth in 1908.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
